The Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie / Koninklijke Muntschouwburg is being renovated and this production took place at the Cirque Royale. It was a coproduction with the Palau de les Arts 'Reina Sofia',Valencia, and the Teatro Real, Madrid, and took advantage of the Cirque Royal's layout to stage it as an opera in the round, with an audience on most sides and the orchestra on the stage. This obviously can present problems when a singer is facing away.

The opera was directed by Damiano Michieletto, who achieved a certain notoriety at Covent Garden with his take on Rossini's Guillaume Tell.  Here he staged L'elisir d'amore on a beach with Adina owning a bar and Nemorino a waiter of sorts. The Cirque Royale does not seem to have been an ideal venue according to  Claude Jottrand (Forum Opera, September 8, 2015) who felt that the rather frenetic action rather overpowered the more tender moments. Musically, it seems to have suffered from the acoustics and from the orchestra being placed behind the singers, which did not help coordination.  The Adina of Olga Peretyatko was the standout performance for him.

On the other hand, Bert Hertogs (ConcertNews.be, September 17, 2015) liked the production but did not rate the opera, seemingly expecting more than "Fijn pretentieloos entertainment dus".
