Spontini's La Fuga in Maschera

The Fondazione Pergolesi Spontini hosts an annual festival in honour of the two composers, the former being born in Jesi and the latter close by.  This year the festival focussed on Spontini including the first modern performance of his comic opera La Fuga in Maschera, a joint production with Teatro San Carlo, Naples, where it will be given February 10-17, 2013.  The delightful opening overture, a great contrast to the dour image we often have of Spontini, can be seen and heard here.  Other excerpts can also be found by searching http://www.youtube.com/. http://www.giornaledellamusica.it/rol/?id=4002 has a review.
